Our favorite Gulf artist, Khawla Al Marri, recently exhibited her new series Archive80 based on 80's "khaleeji" TV shows. Khawla never fails to impress us with her originality, creativity, brush strokes and color. If you haven't already checked out her site then do it.

Sweet Stuff bakery in Dubai is one of our favorite places, mainly because we like to indulge in our sweet tooth but more than that Sweet Stuff is a lifestyle. We prefer to live in a sugar-filled world where the cherry-on-top isn't optional, it's mandatory. Sweet Stuff really thinks out of the cake box when it comes to their branding (check out their Eid greeting here) and now their food has become fine art, thanks to Emirati artist Khawla Al-Marri.
It seems that someone in the kitchen upstairs was thinking about us when they teamed up Sweet Stuff and Khawla Al-Marri as we're massive fans of both. Khawla's paintings references many symbols we associate with the Sweet Stuff lifestyle, a kitsch, pop-art, small town Americana meets Khaleeji world.
Lunch-ing has become so passé, it's all about cup cake-ing and we can't wait to enjoy Sweet Stuff while admiring Khawla Al-Marri's paintings.

Dubai based pop artist Khawla Al-Marri has just launched the Dubai Project, a collection of fine art paintings - and they're are beautiful. Bright, warm, inviting, Khawla's paintings embody the spirit of Dubai. We love her unique style, use of colors and her Van Gogh inspired Dubai starry night.
Khawla Al-Marri is such a talented artist and we adore the story she paints with the Dubai Project.
We'd love to see some of these paintings up in the DIFC, we also think they would make great art for immigration/arrival halls at the airport.

Dubai based pop artist (and we really do mean artist, not singer!), Khalwa Al Marri is our new obsession. The fine artist recalls on her childhood of the 80s and 90s for inspiration, drawing heavily on the vibrant colors and atmosphere - resulting in some of the coolest art we've seen in a while.
Khawla's fashion portraiture features legends such as Karl Largerfeld, Coco Chanel and of course the Louboutin shoe (yes, our beloved Louboutin shoe belongs up there). We love Khawla's quirky and colorful approach. We especially like the touches of Arabic on her paintings (see Karl portrait).
We think Khawla Al Marri is a refreshing breath of pop/fashion/fine art air.
